Observatory on the dynamics of interactions between environment and society in the Amazon

One of the biggest challenges Brazil faces is promoting sustainable development in the Amazon. This is also a major international concern.

Coordinated by the UMR Espace-Dev research unit, the European Odyssea project comprises an internationally-recognised, multi-disciplinary, cross-sector team of European and Brazilian researchers. The project provides a unique opportunity to pool their expertise and build on their knowledge and know-how of the multiple aspects of interactions between the environment and society in the Amazon.

The goal is to build a ground-breaking multi- and cross-disciplinary observatory to audit and assess interactions between Amazonian societies and their environments. The observatory will also contribute to policy development as it encompasses social, environmental, political, economic and health aspects.
