The network’s 2016 action covered IRD’s scientific and operational topics such as marine sciences, climate change, health and environment with the challenges of South-South cooperation and the international sustainable development agenda.

Highlights
  • Antea oceanographic campaigns on La Réunion and in the Indian Ocean

    Expected since 2010, IRD’s oceanography vessel Antea went to La Réunion in the Indian Ocean from 29 August to 14 December 2016. It carried out five oceanographic campaigns for scientists from IRD, La Réunion University and their partners from La Réunion, Madagascar, South Africa and mainland France.

  • Utafiti Days for a partnership strategy uniting French and East African stakeholders

    On the initiative of IRD and the SCAC (State Corporations Advisory Committee) in Kenya, with IFRA and Cirad, the Utafiti (‘research’ in Kiswahili) Days were held on 17-19 October 2016 and brought together researchers and institution heads from France, Europe and East Africa. There were four focuses: IRD meetings, meetings with French cooperation bodies, regional meetings between research stakeholders and a regional strategic programming workshop in the highlands and tropical mountains.

  • Trilateral scientific cooperation workshop in Africa, 8-9 December 2016

    IRD made an active contribution to the international workshop – a side event to the Science Forum South Africa – on the implementation of trilateral scientific cooperation between France, South Africa and French-speaking African countries (Algeria, Madagascar and Senegal). The debates covered the conditions for trilateral cooperation in the field of marine science, engineering sciences, water and climate change, and health and environment.

  • 16th Francophonie Summit

    On 26-27 November Madagascar hosted the 16th Francophonie Summit, on the theme "Shared Growth and Responsible Development: the Conditions of World Stability and the Stability of the Francophone Space".
