IRD has been working in Southeast Asia since 1976 and has five representatives there today. Research is conducted on a partnership basis and tackles a wide array of topics such as agriculture and environment, biodiversity, aquaculture, health, geology and so on.

  • Launch of a worldwide network to fight resistance among arbovirus vectors (Worldwide Insecticide resistance Network)

    Initiated by IRD in Thailand and backed by the WHO, the WIN network was set up in March 2016 to bring together 17 international research institutes to monitor and control resistance to insecticides among arbovirus vectors (Zika, Dengue, Chikungunya). This network of experts endeavours to provide the WHO and Member States with recommendations to improve the surveillance of resistance and speed up the roll-out of alternative vector-control strategies at worldwide level.

  • Regional summer university: « Computational Biology for Infectious Diseases »

    Organised by the UMR Mivegec and Ummisco research units in Vietnam from 18-25 September 2016, this summer university spanned eight days and brought together 90 participants from 38 institutions in 16 Asian countries and 20 experts from Vietnam, Europe and the USA for training in molecular phylogenetics, (meta)genomics, population genetics, and the dynamics of transmission and prediction in epidemiology.

  • 70th anniversary of IRD in New Caledonia and signature of the framework agreement between IRD and the New Caledonian government

    To mark the 70th anniversary of IRD in New Caledonia, the New Caledonian government and the Institute have laid down their partnership in a framework agreement based on the political orientations taken by the territory with regard to research, mainly concerning the topics of global changes and sustainable development, innovation and regional cooperation.
