IRD research encompasses global changes, the sustainable management of resources and territories, mobilities and urban dynamics.

  • Samples of the Illimani glacier preserved in a global sanctuary containing glacier archives

    With glaciers, which contain part of the climate and environmental history of the planet, melting due to climate change, from May to June 2017, the team of the international ICE MEMORY programme extracted ice cores from the Illimani glacier in Bolivia, at an altitude of almost 6300 m.

  • Abraços Campaign

    From 9 April to 8 May 2017, a group of Franco-Brazilian researchers conducted the second ABRAÇOS campaign (Acoustics along the Brazilian COaSt) aboard the IRD oceanographic ship Antea, off the coasts of the Northeast region of Brazil. The contributions of this campaign range from discovering new species to improving understanding of connectivity between oceanic islands and the continental margin.

  • 50 years of IRD in Peru

    2017 marked 50 years of IRD presence in Peru. From August to December, two exhibitions and twelve conferences on IRD’s specific research themes in Peru (biology, geosciences, oceanography, health, SHS).
